Managing User Groups

Group people by team, department, or office so you can filter timesheets and reports

Applies to: Workforce · Premium · LawBillity

User groups let you look at one team at a time, such as Accounting or the New York office, on timesheets, reports, and the dashboard, instead of scrolling through everyone.

Creating a Group

  1. Go to Admin > Manage Users and click the Groups tab.
  2. Click Add Group.
  3. Enter a name, like Accounting, Engineering, or New York Office, and save it.

Adding People to a Group

On the Groups tab, select the group and click Group Properties to choose who's in it. If someone works across departments, put them where you'll want to see them in reports.

To remove a group you no longer need, select it and click Delete Group.

Where Groups Show Up

  • Timesheets: admins and managers can filter to one group's entries. See Viewing Other Users’ Timesheets.
  • Reports: every report has a User Group filter, so you can get hours by department or utilization by office. See How to Run a Report.
  • Dashboard: filter the Billable vs. Non-Billable Hours chart by user group.

Tips

  • Use clear, consistent names. Your team sees them in filter dropdowns.
  • After a reorganization, update each group's members in Group Properties.

Common Problems

  • A group filter shows nobody. No one has been added to it yet. Add people in Group Properties.
  • Someone shows up under the wrong team in a report. Move them to the right group in Group Properties.
  • You can’t find user groups in Custom Lists. They aren't there. They're on the Groups tab in Manage Users.
