My Invoice Shows $0.00: How Do I Fix It?
Find the missing rate or entries behind a $0.00 invoice and fix it
Applies to: Premium · LawBillity
A $0.00 invoice almost always means no billing rate was set for the time on it, so hours were multiplied by $0. Less often, the entries you expected aren't on the invoice at all. Work out which one you have, fix it, then recreate the invoice.
Step 1: Look at the Invoice Lines
- Lines are there but show $0.00: a rate is missing. Go to Step 2.
- There are no lines: the entries weren't picked up. Go to Step 3.
The Rate column in the invoice's entry list shows the rate Time Tracker actually used for each line. See Selecting Entries for an Invoice.
Step 2: Set a Rate
Time Tracker uses the most specific rate it can find. Set at least one of these:
Rate
Where to set it

Client rate
The client's Other Details tab:
Override user rates and set a specific rate for this customer. See
Setting Client Billing Rates and Overrides.
Activity rate

Activity: the
Rate and
OT Rate columns. See
Managing Custom Lists.
User’s standard billing rate

Admin >
Manage Users. Used last. See
Setting User Billing Rates.
Step 3: Check the Entries
- Billable: non-billable entries aren't invoiced. Check the entries are billable (Include in Invoice ticked). If your firm's default is Non-Billable, new entries start unticked.
- Approved: if your firm requires approvals, time has to be approved before it can go on a finalized invoice. See Approving and Rejecting Time Entries.
- Client and project: entries logged to the wrong client or project won't appear on this client's invoice.
- Dates: the invoice's date range has to include the dates of the work.
- Already billed: entries already on another invoice show as Billed and won't appear again. See Understanding Billing Statuses: UnBilled, Pre-Billed, and Billed.
Step 4: Recreate the Invoice
Rates are applied when an invoice is created, so a fixed rate doesn't update an invoice you already made. Delete the $0.00 invoice and create it again.
Note: Changing a rate doesn't reprice entries already on a finalized invoice.
