Let clients pay invoices online, from the invoice email or the client portal
Applies to: Premium · LawBillity
With online payments set up, clients can pay an invoice by card from the invoice email or the client portal. No checks to mail, and the payment is recorded in Time Tracker for you.
Choosing a Payment Service
Service
Good for
Stripe
Most businesses. Takes credit cards and ACH bank payments.
LawPay
Law firms. Built with trust account rules in mind.
CPACharge
Accounting firms and other professional services.
Setting It Up
- Go to Admin > Settings > Payment Gateway.
- Click the tab for your service: LawPay, Stripe, or CPACharge. If you don't have an account yet, use the link on that tab to apply for one.
- Click Connect and sign in to the service to allow Time Tracker to take payments.
- Make sure the service uses the same currency as Time Tracker (the Currency in Admin > Settings > System Settings). If they don't match, payments are rejected.
That's it. A payment link is added to your invoices automatically. Clients can also pay from the client portal. See Configuring the Client Portal.
Common Problems
- A client’s payment was rejected. The payment service's currency doesn't match Time Tracker's. Change one so they match.
- The client doesn’t see a way to pay. Check that the payment service is connected and the invoice is finalized and sent. See Finalizing and Sending an Invoice.
- A payment is recorded twice. Online payments are recorded automatically. Don't also enter them by hand. See Recording Client Payments.
- You can’t find the setting. Payment settings are for admins. See Understanding User Roles.
